Hungary was a country I really enjoyed exploring, I spent most of my time in Budapest one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, enjoying the thermal waters of the spa and pools. But there is so much more to explore in Hungary like the surrounding countryside. I hope this short summary of Hungary will help you plan your trip.

Best Time to Visit

The summers are very hot and can get as high as 35degrees from June to August. While the winters are very cold temperatures can get as low as -2 degrees. Spring and autumn are pleasantly mild and the best time to visit the rural areas, the cities can mostly be visited all year round.
Things to do and see

  1. Szechenyi Spa is the largest public pool in Budapest. The Spa has steam rooms, Saunas and 18 indoor and outdoor thermal to relax in.
  2. Danube River cruise is a great way to see popular landmarks like the chain Bridge and Buda Castle.
  3. Hungarian Folk show is an authentic music and dance performance worth going to see to soak up the rich Hungarian culture in Budapest.

 Food

Hungarian cuisine includes the world-famous goulash. Hungarian food uses ingredients such as Paprika, sour cream and garlic. The most popular meats are pork and chicken. Fish does not play a big part in Hungarian food.

Transportation

Air: There are direct flights from London to Hungary. There are no domestic flights within Hungary.

Roads: Hungary has well maintained modern roads. Some roads and all motorways have a payable toll. Drivers drive on the right-hand side of the road.

Rail: The rail service in Hungary is operated by MAV. The rail service connects the whole country.

Taxi: Uber is available in Hungary there are also metered taxis.

Ferry: There are regular ferry services operating on the Danube river. From spring to Autumn, the river connects Budapest with Szentendre, Esztergom, Visegrad and Vic.

Bus: There are regular coach services that connect the whole country. There are also international coach services. The three major bus stations in Budapest are Nepliget, Stadion and Arpad. All the major cities in Hungary have a public transport system that includes buses, trams, trolley buses, metros and trains.

Visa

Visas are not required for all EU, U.S, Canadian and Australian nationals for stays of up to 90days over a 6month period.

Language

The official language spoken is Hungarian. German and English are also Widely spoken.

Money

The official currency in Hungary is the Hungarian Forint (HUF) Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at ATM machines and in restaurants and shops.

Tipping

In Budapest, a tip of 10-15% is standard for good service.

Social etiquette

Hand shaking is customary when meeting or been introduced to someone.
