My favourite city in Germany is Berlin for the food art and culture. Its where I have spent the most time in Germany, If I was to go back to Germany it would be to explore the country side. I hope this short summary of Germany will help you plan your trip.

Best Time to Visit

May to September are the most popular times to visit Germany because the weather is ideal and allows you to do more outdoors activities.  To avoid many tourists the best months to visit are in April and October. The winter months are popular, because tourist fly out to visit the winter markets.

Things to do and see

  1. Bavarian Alps form part of the Austrian border, the views of the mountains are stunning. You can go skiing, hiking and canoeing, there are many outdoor activities to keep you busy.
  2. Moselle Valley is famous for its vineyards. While visiting the traditional country sides of Germany its worth including the Moselle Valley.
  3. Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp can be visited from the city of Berlin. You can learn about the design of the camp and the role it played during World War ll. Best toured with a guide.
  4. Berlin Wall, East side gallery is the longest part of the Berlin wall still standing. In 1990 more than 100 artists from all over the world decorated the wall with their art work. Worth visiting while in Berlin to see the art work and learn the history behind the Berlin wall.

Food

The famous Germany snack is sausage rolled in a bed roll. Many Germany dishes are meat based, pork been the most popular. Pasta, Pizza and Lasagna are also very popular. In all the big cities in Germany there is food from all over the world. And, many vegan and healthy food options.

Transportation

Air: There are direct flights from London to all the major cities in Germany. The Domestic airlines in Germany are Lufthansa and Eurowings.

Roads: The quality of the roads in Germany are excellent and well maintained. Drivers drive on the right-hand side of the road.

Rail: The company Deutsche Bahn operates as the national rail company in Germany and has international options.

Taxi: Uber is available in Germany, there are also metered taxis.

Ferry: There are ferry services that operate most of the lakes, rivers and coastal waters in Germany.

Bus: Germany has a network of long-distance buses that connects the whole country. All urban cities have a network of buses, trams and metros.

Visa

Visas are not required for all EU, U.S, Canadian and Australian nationals for stays of up to 90days over a 6month period.

Language

The official language spoken is German. English is also Widely spoken in the tourist areas.

Money

The official currency in Germany is the Euro. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at ATM machines and in restaurants and shops.

Tipping

It is customary to tip 10% to anyone in the service industry.

Social etiquette

Handshaking is customary and it is considered rude to address people you have just met by there first name.
